DC: 1930 to 2018

The homeowners of this 1930 Washington DC residence wanted to update their kitchen, and at the same time, open it up to the adjoining dining room and improve the circulation of the space.  In the past, the kitchen had been expanded by opening up the old brick exterior of of the home and enclosing the adjoining porch.  A peninsula which housed a cooktop was supported by the base of the old exterior wall which divided the kitchen from the porch.  We removed the  peninsula along with the remaining brick base and expanded the working kitchen into the porch area.  The kitchen was also opened up to the adjoining dining room by expanding the opening from 39″ to 84″.
